Something for everyone to do, to look at or even just the option to sit and enjoy the quiet and the view.
History
Our micro museum gives a lot of information about the history of Isle Martin. It is also the starting point for the heritage trail, which traces the various locations of the past.
Walking
There are waymarked (with ribbons) routes to the summit of the island. The routes range from about 2 km to 6 km. These are not constructed paths and as such should be walked as you would on a mountain path. The routes follow as much as possible the drier ways across the landscape but there are places where they cross steep grassy sections and boggy areas. It is advised to wear walking boots especially after periods of rain when the ground can be slippery and the many hollows can fill with water.
Library of stuff
We have a library of stuff, where you can find more information. You can also borrow fishing gear, wetsuits, wellies etc. There’s an honesty shop for small snacks and juice and sometimes you will find a pop up café, serving teas, coffees and homebakes.
Staying
Responsible camping is welcome. Please follow the Scottish Outdoor access code and leave the island a better place than you found it. We also have bothy style accommodation for individual visitors or larger groups. And one of our houses is available to rent as a whole unit.
Getting there
The island is freely accessible for anyone with their own transport. We ask for a donation for mooring alongside our pontoon to help with its maintenance and upkeep. Our boat AUK runs a seasonal ferry service from Ardmair jetty
